Marty Small, Sr., Mayor, Atlantic City
Marty Small reveals how Atlantic City is preparing for a new era of competition as New York City’s casino market continues to expand.
Marty Small was appointed mayor of Atlantic City in 2019 upon the resignation of a previous mayor for corruption. Small was elected to a partial term in 2021 and re-elected to a full four year term in November 2025. He serves under a mandate imposed in 2016 by which the state controls the city’s finances.
Small was a basketball player at Atlantic City High School, and went on the play for Stockton University, where he earned his degree. He claims former mayor, James Whelan as a mentor and includes former state Senator and Casino Control Commission Chairman Steve Perskie as a strategic advisor. He spoke with GGB Editor at Large Roger Gros in the mayor’s chambers in the city hall of Atlantic City in July for the August cover story of GGB.
