First Nations Consortium Acquires Elements Casino Chilliwack
Great Canadian Entertainment recently completed the sale of River Rock Casino in June of this year.
Great Canadian Entertainment has completed the sale of Elements Casino Chilliwack to a consortium of communities from the Ts’elxwéyeqw Tribe.
The buyer group is affiliated with Ts’elxwéyeqw Tribe Management Ltd. and represents seven First Nation communities in the Chilliwack River watershed.
The casino, a long-running Fraser Valley venue, has more than 300 slots, live and electronic table games, bingo, dining and entertainment.
‘Next stop in that growth’
Chief David Jimmie, president of Ts’elxwéyeqw Tribe Management Ltd., said the acquisition extends the group’s broader commercial strategy.
“This acquisition is the next step in that growth,” he said, adding that the deal shows “what our communities are capable of when we compete and lead in the business world.”
Great Canadian CEO Matt Anfinson said the company was “thrilled” to welcome the group to the province’s gaming sector and called it the right steward for the property.
The acquisition was first announced in November of last year.
More Ownership Shift
The transaction fits a wider pattern in British Columbia, where Great Canadian has been reshaping its portfolio and First Nations ownership has become more prominent in land-based gaming.
Great Canadian Entertainment completed the sale of River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, British Columbia, to a partnership led by Petroglyph Development Group and Musqueam Capital Corporation in June.
The move hands control of one of Western Canada’s largest casino resorts to Indigenous-owned operators, extending Petroglyph’s rapid expansion across British Columbia gaming assets.
