The Power of Story
Omotola Oronti , Marketing Manager, Bet9ja and Bet9ja Foundation
For Omotola Oronti, the gaming industry was a means to an end, and a platform to pursue the profession she loved. Marketing.
“There’s something incredibly rewarding about taking an idea and turning it into a story that people genuinely connect with,” says Oronti, marketing manager for Nigerian online sports betting provider Bet9ja. “Marketing brought me into gaming, but the industry’s pace, innovation and endless opportunities are what have kept me here for the past 11 years.”
Oronti has always been curious about people, how they think and what influences their decisions. She credits that curiosity to her birthplace, Ikenne-Remo, Nigeria, a town rich in history and educational opportunities.
“Growing up in Ikenne shaped my perspective more than I appreciated at the time,” she says. “When I joined Bet9ja as a marketing assistant, I knew I had found an industry where I could continue learning and making meaningful contributions. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to begin my journey.”
From the start, she worked alongside professionals who challenged her to think beyond execution. “Great marketing is about consistency,” she says, “paying attention to detail and understanding the customer.”
As marketing manager for both Bet9ja and its charitable arm, the Bet9ja Foundation, Oronti ensures that initiatives support the organization’s broader objectives while developing meaningful experiences for their audience.
“One of the greatest privileges of my career has been helping to shape the story of Bet9ja Foundation. It’s about more than mere projects or campaigns. We’re talking about people whose lives have genuinely changed because someone believed in their potential. My role is to ensure those stories are told with honesty, dignity and purpose while building a brand that people trust and identify with.”
Take the foundation’s support of Team Nigeria’s para powerlifting team at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. “These were men and women who had refused to allow disability to define their future. They carried the hopes of a nation onto one of the world’s biggest sporting stages. Witnessing six of the seven athletes return home with medals was incredibly emotional. It reignited something we’ve always believed at the Bet9ja Foundation: that talent doesn’t recognize disability. Opportunity does.”
Great marketing is always a team effort, Oronti points out. “It comes from collaboration, trust and bringing together different perspectives to solve problems. For me, it’s about fashioning an environment where people feel empowered to contribute their best ideas. Seeing my team grow in confidence and capability is every bit as rewarding as seeing a successful campaign come to life.”
All this is taking place in a regional gaming industry that has become almost unrecognizable over the past decade-plus.
“We’ve witnessed remarkable growth, driven largely by technology in Nigeria,” Oronti says. “Smartphone adoption, improved internet connectivity and seamless digital payment solutions have transformed how people engage with gaming platforms. In addition, today’s customers are more informed, more discerning and expect much more from brands.
“I believe we’re entering one of the most exciting periods the gaming industry has ever experienced. The brands that will lead the next chapter are those that continue to innovate while keeping people at the center of every decision.”
Technology will continue changing how brands interact with consumers, she adds. “Artificial intelligence, automation, predictive analytics and personalization will become even more sophisticated, allowing brands to create experiences that feel increasingly relevant to individual customers.
“At the same time, I believe consumers will look up to brands that operate responsibly, contribute meaningfully to society and create genuine value within the communities they serve.
“If my work continues to open doors for others and leave organizations better than I found them, I’ll consider that a successful and fulfilling career,” Oronti says.
