Soaring Achievement
T.i. Studios Architecture Gold Eagle Casino • North Battleford, Saskatchewan
In 2025, the Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation of Saskatchewan (MGBHLM) broke ground on an ambitious $100 million resort project on ancestral land in North Battleford.
The Gold Eagle Casino will replace a facility of the same name, which has operated for 30 years under the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA). The new complex will include a 42,000-square-foot casino, a 140-room hotel, a tribal lodge, and a convention center with room for up to 1,000 guests. The project constitutes the largest indigenous-led investment in the history of the province.
At the October groundbreaking, Chief Tanya Stone said the development “represents years of vision, planning and commitment from our leadership and community… This will be a world-class facility, drawing visitors for entertainment, cultural events and community celebrations.”
“The rejuvenation of the Gold Eagle Casino represents an extraordinary opportunity to reimagine what a SIGA casino can be—not just a place to visit, but a true tourism and entertainment destination,” said SIGA President and CEO Zane Hansen.
According to Calgary-based T.i. Studios Architecture, tribal elders “have helped shape the (design) vision with natural materials and to open light-filled spaces and dedicated areas to honor leadership, history and language. The inclusion of Cree and Nakota elements ensures that the development will not stand apart from the land—it will reflect it.”
A long-term master plan includes multifamily residential and commercial buildings, plus nature trails and culturally meaningful gathering places that connect people to nature, and nature to the built environment.
