IPI Settlement Decision Due This Week

Commissioners in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands will decide Monday whether to revoke the sole gaming license on Saipan. April 22 is the latest date for a ruling on Imperial Pacific International.

On April 22, the Commonwealth Casino Commission (CCC) of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) will decide the fate of Imperial Pacific International (IPI), the Hong Kong listed operator that holds an exclusive license to offer casino gaming on the island of Saipan.

IPI’s lavish Garapan resort, Imperial Pacific Palace, has been closed since March 2020, and the operator owes $62 million in license and regulatory fees to the government. Contractors have also gone unpaid.

At a hearing last week, commission Executive Director Andrew Yeom said Monday is the last chance for a settlement between IPI and the attorney general’s office, or the commission will revoke the license.

According to Asia Gaming Brief, the commission is “leaning towards a settlement rather than immediate license revocation.”
