The Catawba Nation has opened the first public phase of its new Two Kings Casino in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, marking a major step in its $1 billion expansion.

North Carolina casino opens after huge renovation

Key Takeaways:

  • The Two Kings Casino in Kings Mountain has launched its first public phase with a larger, permanent gaming space.
  • A massive resort including a 385-room hotel and shopping center is underway, set to open in spring 2027.
  • Rising sports betting and gambling concerns highlight the evolving North Carolina market focused on economic growth.

The temporary gaming hall that began operating in 2021 has been replaced by a larger permanent space according to local reporting. This includes 1,350 slot machines, 36 electronic table games, 22 live table games, sports betting kiosks, a restaurant and a bar.

Construction Advances Toward Full Resort

The tribe and developer Delaware North say the opening is only an introductory stage. Work continues on a much larger resort plan that includes a 24-story, 385-room hotel, 11 restaurants, a shopping center and 3,500 parking spaces. The full complex is expected to cover about 185,800 square meters and eventually house 4,300 slot machines and 100 table games, with completion targeted for spring 2027.

Bigger Role in a Changing Market

The project comes as North Carolina’s gambling market expands quickly. For the Catawba Nation, the casino is positioned as an economic anchor that could support about 2,200 jobs and broaden the tribe’s footprint in regional gaming.

Similarly, a recent economic impact study found that a White Earth Nation proposed casino would open the market for more job opportunities. During construction, the project is expected to support nearly 400 jobs.
