A new level of power protection for gaming machines is coming to JuiceBox.

An upcoming generation of JuiceBox Power Distribution Units will introduce Power Guard, an innovative power-management capability designed specifically for modern gaming machines. When AC power is unexpectedly removed from the machine, Power Guard will temporarily maintain power to critical DC outputs, giving connected components the time needed to complete essential processing functions and shut down in a controlled manner.

A sudden power outage or accidental disconnection can interrupt transactions, prevent game data from being properly recorded, and leave players uncertain about the status of their credits, tickets or active sessions. These disruptions can result in player complaints, additional attendant calls, and time-consuming investigations for casino personnel. Power Guard is designed to help reduce these risks by supporting the machine during the critical moments immediately following the loss of incoming power.

By maintaining DC output power after AC power is removed, Power Guard will allow the gaming machine’s control systems to complete key processes, save important operating information, finalize transaction records, and perform an orderly shutdown. When power is restored, the machine can recover more predictably, helping operators minimize downtime and return the game to service faster.

Power Guard will be offered both as an integrated feature within select JuiceBox PDUs and as a standalone solution, providing manufacturers and operators greater flexibility in how the technology is incorporated into new and existing gaming-machine designs. The standalone Power Guard solution will allow its controlled-shutdown capabilities to be utilized in applications where a complete JuiceBox PDU may not be required.

For casino operators and gaming-machine manufacturers, Power Guard represents greater system reliability, better protection of critical machine data, fewer power-related service issues, and an improved player experience.
