Gaming Remains Biggest Government Revenue Source in Macau for 2026

The contributions come to around 83% of total central account receipts

Macau’s gaming tax intake continued to rise in the first nine months of 2026, but the pace eased as September collections slipped below the level seen a year earlier.

The Financial Services Bureau’s central account data, cited by AGB, showed the government took in MOP74.56 billion ($9.22 billion) in gaming-related tax between January and September, up 5.9% from the same period of 2025.

September added MOP8.39 billion, a 1.6% decline year on year, pulling cumulative growth down from 6.9% at the end of August.

By the end of September, gaming receipts had reached 80.6% of the government’s full-year target of MOP92.53 billion, according to the bureau.

Gaming is a Focal Source for Government Revenue

Gaming remained the dominant revenue source, contributing about 83% of total central account receipts. Overall government income reached MOP89.88 billion, also up 5.9% year on year, while spending was broadly flat at MOP68.27 billion.

That combination left the central account with a surplus of MOP21.61 billion, an increase of 30.2% from a year earlier.

September gross gaming revenue fell 1.2% from a year earlier to MOP17.84 billion, underscoring the link between gaming performance and fiscal receipts.

The nine-month total already represented 80.6% of the government’s annual gaming tax goal, while other industry commentary said officials have not revised the full-year gross gaming revenue outlook of MOP236 billion.
