Bally’s and GLPI Issue Update on Chicago Casino Resort

Bally’s Corporation and Gaming and Leisure Properties, Inc. (GLPI) have issued a progress update indicating the integrated casino resort on which they are partners in Chicago has passed several key milestones.

The development is being built on the former site of the Chicago Tribune in the city’s River West neighborhood. Work is on track and the venue is expected to open in Q4 of 2026.

Former Chicago Tribune buildings have already been demolished, while trench excavation has been completed. Developers have also established a concrete pad for the hotel core and installed a waterproofing membrane in key areas.

Other milestones to date include installing caisson caps and grade beams to support vertical construction. In addition, the first crane for steel erection has been assembled.

What Next for Bally’s Chicago?

Current activities include concrete pours for shallow foundation walls, columns, basement level slab-on-grade, grade beams and elevator core walls.  Rebar cage and formwork installation will also take place across multiple sectors.

Underground work — such as permanent electrical and plumbing improvements — is also scheduled, while the installation of structural grade beams and perimeter walls for both the casino and the hotel is ongoing.

Upcoming targets include continued vertical construction of the hotel and casino, with two more cranes to be placed on site to support. Fabrication of the hotel curtainwall system for the hotel and casino will also take place.

Once open, Bally’s Chicago will house a 178,000-square-foot casino. This, GLPI and Bally’s said, will feature over 3,300 slots and 170 table games. Also on site will be a 500-room hotel, dining and nightlife, event space, and a riverwalk and green space.
