Art Manteris, Legendary Sports Book Operator and Author, “The Bookie”
Art Manteris, the legendary sports book operator, is author of the new book, The Bookie, which is a review of his tremendous career. He joins the podcast for something we haven’t done before, which is present the podcast live and in person with an audience at the Skinny Bar in Boulder City, Nevada. Art is a member of the Sports Betting Hall of Fame for a career that spans some true milestones. He started at the Stardust in Las Vegas as a young man, and later joined the Barbary Coast sports book. He was later hired to run the sports book at Caesars Palace, where he helped to invent and refine prop bets. He then was brought over to the Las Vegas Hilton, where he designed and built the Super Book, the largest sports book in the world at that time. Then the Fertitta brothers hired him to run the books for Station Casinos in Las Vegas where he spent the last 20 years. He also played several roles in the legalization of sports betting in the U.S. but he’s not completely satisfied with how it has rolled out, which we also talk about. A special thanks to Grant Turner and the staff at the Skinny Bar
