Star Entertainment Names Mathieson Jnr as New Chairman
Star Entertainment Group has announced the appointment of Bruce Mathieson Jnr as its new chairman following the departure of Anne Ward.
The switch in leadership was revealed during a meeting held on November 28. Here, it was confirmed that Ward has exited the company’s board after serving as chair since August 2022.
Australian national Mathieson Jnr is a scion of billionaire Bruce Mathieson. He is the director of Endeavour Group, and ALH Group, the largest poker machine operator in Victoria.
He takes on the role of chairman after being appointed as a non-executive director in August this year.
More Board Changes at Star
Aside from Mathieson Jnr replacing Ward, Star announced several other changes to its board at the same meeting.
Kim and George Papanier joined the board as nominees of Bally’s Corporation. This is ahead of Bally’s takeover of Star, which is due to complete in the near future.
Meanwhile, Peter Hodgson was named interim chair of Star’s Audit Committee, while Eirene Garnsey is now an additional company secretary. In addition, Anne Ward resigned from her role as a director.
Star confirmed all board changes were effective immediately.
“On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Anne Ward and Deborah Page for their significant contributions to the board during a challenging period for Star,” Group CEO and Managing Director Steve McCann said. “We wish them well for the future.
“I would also like to welcome Soo Kim and George Papanier to the board. I look forward to working with them to assist in shaping a new future for Star.”
The changes come just several weeks after Star also announced the appointment of Don Pasquariello as a non-executive director.
