SkyCity Entertainment Group has entered into multi-year partnership with five professional rugby unions teams playing in the Super Rugby Pacific competition.

The operator will serve as the official entertainment partner to the Blues, Gallagher Chiefs, Hurricanes, Crusaders and Highlanders. SkyCity did not disclose the length of the new deals.

SkyCity will introduce new entertainment initiatives to improv matchdays and bring fans closer to the game. Details of these will be revealed as the partnerships progress,

Super Rugby Pacific traditionally features teams from Australia, Fiji, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. However, in previous years, clubs from Argentina, Japan, and South Africa have also taken part.

Major Milestone for SkyCity and New Zealand Rugby

SkyCity CEO Jason Walbridge said the partnership is a major milestone for the business. He said it will build on regional relationships already in place across New Zealand.

“Rugby is part of New Zealand’s DNA,” Walbridge said. “Partnering with all five NZ Super Rugby teams is a milestone we’re immensely proud of. It gives us a great opportunity to connect with fans and communities across the whole of Aotearoa.”

Interim Blues CEO Andy Roberts added: “This is a major moment for our clubs. SkyCity’s support ensures that our teams are strongly positioned both on and off the field and their commitment will help us invest in player development, fan engagement and more.

“Together, we’re creating a place where fans can feel the energy, live the emotion and experience something unforgettable.”
