Relocation Confirmed for Casino Nova Scotia

Casino Nova Scotia

Great Canadian Entertainment has reached an agreement with the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation (NSGC) to relocate its Casino Nova Scotia to a new purpose-built casino destination at the Dartmouth Crossing.

The casino has been operating at its current Halifax site in Canada’s Nova Scotia province for more than 20 years. Great Canadian runs the venue on behalf of the NSGC.

Recently, the NSGC activated a clause in its agreement with Great Canadian to acquire the Halifax site for “nominal consideration.” The province is set to sell the property to a third party and lease it back, enabling Casino Nova Scotia to remain open until the new location is complete.

Few details have been released regarding the new Dartmouth Crossing facility, which is expected to open in 2029. Great Canadian said this “signature” development will “redefine” entertainment and economic opportunity in Nova Scotia, establishing a new tourism anchor.

Great Canadian and NSGC have agreed to an extended 25-year operational term following the planned Dartmouth Crossing. Commencement of construction is subject to certain required development and building approvals.

‘Exciting’ Vision for Casino Nova Scotia

Great Canadian CEO Matthew Anfinson said the announcement marks a “major” milestone for Casino Nova Scotia and the province.

“We recognize the province’s strong desire to unlock the full value of the property where our Halifax operation currently sits, and we are pleased to move forward with an exciting, refreshed vision for gaming entertainment in the Nova Scotia market,” Anfinson said.

“There is much work to undertake to bring this vision to life, so it is very much ‘business as usual’ for our valued team members and guests at Casino Nova Scotia’s Halifax location. The announcement marks a major milestone for Casino Nova Scotia and the province.”

Nova Scotia Environment and Climate Change Minister Timothy Halman added: “Great Canadian has the expertise and track record we need to ensure the continued success of casino operations in our province.”

Casino Nova Scotia’s existing waterfront site will remain fully operational with no day-to-day impact. No interruption is expected throughout the construction of the new casino facility.
