More than a Numbers Game

Alex Walsh, Chief Financial Officer, Aristocrat Gaming

As chief financial officer of Aristocrat Gaming, Alex Walsh combines the precision of Wall Street, the discipline of Procter & Gamble and the creativity of the LEGO Group. This uncommon blend has helped him thrive in one of gaming’s most dynamic leadership roles.

After earning a degree in business economics and public policy from Indiana University, Walsh began his career as an options trader. “You work really hard and with incredibly smart people,” he recalls. But he soon wanted to see his work connect more directly to people and products, a realization that led him to Procter & Gamble.

Over nearly a decade at P&G, Walsh held four finance roles spanning sourcing, manufacturing, commercial and corporate functions. The experience provided an end-to-end understanding of how people, processes and products come together to create value. “I really enjoyed driving decisions and then seeing buildings go up or products hit store shelves,” he says.

When the LEGO Group approached him, Walsh was eager to work on a brand he had long admired. What ultimately drew him in, however, was the opportunity to lead the Americas Direct-to-Consumer finance team, gaining hands-on experience in both e-commerce and brick-and-mortar retail operations. “E-commerce was just starting to take off,” he says. “It was an incredible opportunity to expand my skill set on an iconic brand I grew up with.” After two years, he was promoted to head of finance for the Americas Market Group.

Four years later, Aristocrat came calling, and Walsh was ready for a new challenge. While the company and industry intrigued him, it was the people who truly won him over. “Everyone I met during the recruitment process was smart and driven, but also warm and welcoming,” he says. “It felt like the right fit.”

After nearly three years leading Aristocrat Gaming’s Commercial Finance teams across the Americas and EMEA, Walsh was appointed CFO of Aristocrat Gaming. He brings an ownership mentality to the role, a philosophy rooted in his early days at Procter & Gamble. “When I saw an opportunity to drive value, I didn’t wait for someone with more stripes on their shoulder to tell me,” he says. “I wrapped my head around it, figured it out and delivered it. That’s how I earned trust and, ultimately, more responsibility.”

Looking ahead, Walsh is energized by the continued evolution of the gaming industry. “Our industry is still maturing,” he says. “Technology, content and creativity are converging in ways that redefine what’s possible. In business, product is everything—and innovation is your lifeblood. That’s been true across every industry I’ve worked in.”

From trading floors to factory floors to the creative heart of gaming, Alex Walsh’s career reflects precision, discipline and imagination—and a conviction that in finance, the best leaders don’t just count the numbers. They help write the story behind them.
