Play Smart from the Start Consumer Hub brings a player-first approach to responsible gaming

To meet the challenge of delivering relevant responsible gaming (RG) messages to today’s generation of gamblers, the industry must meet players where they are—with tools that are accessible, empowering and built around how people engage with gaming. That’s the thinking behind the “Play Smart from the Start” consumer hub, a new digital resource center launched by the American Gaming Association (AGA).

An extension of the recently released Play Smart from the Start messaging framework, the consumer hub is a one-stop shop for players to find tools, information and support—all in one place. It’s built to make responsible gaming part of the everyday experience, not something players have to work hard to understand.

Putting Players First

Play Smart from the Start began with a simple principle: Responsible gaming shouldn’t be an afterthought. Whether you’re a first-time bettor or a seasoned player, maintaining a healthy relationship with gaming revolves around three foundational habits:

  1. Bring the Right State of Mind: Start every session by checking in with yourself. Are you calm, present and prepared to play on your terms?
  2. Know the Game You’re Playing: Understand the rules, odds, house advantage and how your choices influence outcomes.
  3. Act Intentionally: Set clear time and money limits, pause for breaks and assess how you feel before, during and after betting.

At the heart of the consumer hub are practical tools designed to support players before, during and after their gaming experiences:

Ultimately, the goal of the consumer hub is to help players build confidence, clarity and control every time they play.

Empowering the Industry

While the hub is built for players, it also serves our industry. A dedicated industry tool kit provides operators and suppliers with customizable messaging templates, creative assets, communication frameworks and activation concepts. These tools help ensure consistent and impactful delivery of RG initiatives across every interaction point.

We encourage all gaming operators—both online and land-based—to leverage these tools to include Play Smart from the Start materials in their customer communications and touchpoints.

A key insight shaping the hub is that effective responsible gaming is less about restriction and more about empowerment. Grounded in behavioral science and informed by player research, the messaging platform is meant to meet players where they are.
