Grosvenor Walsall Going ‘G’ in U.K.
New brand enters another British market
The Grosvenor Casino in the town of Walsall, U.K. will be enlarged and refurbished before re-launching under the company’s G Casino brand. The move is part of a £50 million casino upgrade and expansion plan from parent Rank Group. The Walsall property will see the addition of an area for live entertainment and a sports lounge with multiple flat-screen TVs. Work is set to begin before the end of 2010, with the reopening expected early in 2011.
The project is said to be similar to a £1.2 million refurbishment at the Broad Street Grosvenor Casino in Birmingham. That venue also will reopen as a G Casino by year’s end. A third conversion is anticipated for the Grosvenor Casino in Plymouth in 2011, with new-build G brand casinos planned for Stockton in 2011, and Oldbury and South Manchester in 2012.
Rank’s G Casino brand is based on the casino-as-night-out concept, where gaming is intended to be one component of a more complete entertainment experience.
