Gaming and Leisure Properties, Inc. has announced the appointment of Michael Borofsky to its board as a new independent director.

The addition will be effective immediately, subject to customary regulatory approvals. The appointment will increase the GLPI board to eight directors, seven of whom are independent.

Borofsky is the founder of Mithrandir Ventures, a family office with investments in gaming, healthcare, software and climate tech. Prior to this, Borofsky was general counsel and a member of the management and investment committees at Gryphon Investors.

Earlier career roles included chief operating and strategy officer of the Pohlad Companies, a holding company with a group of operating businesses, including MLB’s Minnesota Twins.

He also spent 16 years as a senior executive at MacAndrews & Forbes, an investment vehicle for Ronald O. Perelman. In addition, he worked for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom and was an analyst at Goldman Sachs.

GLPI CEO Talks Up Borofsky’s Investment Track Record

Peter Carlino, chairman and CEO of GLPI, said Borofsky’s extensive experience would support the business moving forward.

“Michael has a proven track record of investing in and advising companies through transformative growth and brings deep financial, capital allocation, strategy and legal expertise which will complement the board,” Carlino said.

“I am delighted to welcome Michael as our newest director. I’m confident that his extensive experience in the gaming, entertainment and technology sectors will be highly valuable as we continue to grow our tenant base and property portfolio and build value for shareholders.”

The board addition came after GLPI published a progress update on several development projects taking place across the U.S. The update referred to five projects and four operating partners, amounting to approximately $1.5 billion of capital commitments.
