Cordish Companies Opens Live! Casino Virginia
Cordish Companies and Bruce Smith Enterprise have jointly announced the opening of Live! Casino Virginia, the first full-scale casino in the state.
The temporary Petersburg facility features a gaming area spread over an area of 75,000sq ft. It includes more than 900 slot machines and over 30 table games, while on-site amenities include a bar and quick-service restaurant.
While the temporary venue is now open, construction will continue on the Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia. Located on the same site as the temporary facility, the permanent facility is scheduled to open in late 2027.
Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia will cover an area of 445,000sq ft. This will include a casino with 1,600 slot machines, over 60 table games, a sportsbook and high-limit slot and table areas.
The permanent venue forms part of a larger, $1.4 billion masterplan by the partnership. This will be developed in phases over the coming years.
‘Proud’ Launch for Cordish Companies
Cordish Companies Principal Jon Cordish outlined his enthusiasm for the project. He said that the company was “proud” to be part of the partnership that launched the first full-scale casino in Virginia.
“Live Casino Virginia is a game-changing development,” he said. “It is positioned to be a catalyst for entertainment, hospitality, and sustained economic growth throughout the region for decades to come.”
Bruce Smith, founder of Bruce Smith Enterprise, added: “For far too long, this area has been a place people passed through rather than stopped to explore; today, that changes.
“Live! Casino Virginia will stand as a destination in its own right, and as someone deeply committed to this region and its people, I’m proud to help create opportunities that strengthen, inspire, and invest in the community for generations ahead.”
Cordish Companies and Bruce Smith Enterprise were joined by Virginia Lottery Board Chair Ferhan Hamid; Virginia Lottery Executive Director Khalid Jones; Petersburg Mayor Samuel Parham and members of Petersburg City Council; and Pro Football legend Joe Theismann; for the opening.
