Allwyn Begins New National Lottery Terminal Rollout in U.K.
Allwyn, operator of the U.K. National Lottery, has commenced the rollout of over 30,000 new Wave lottery terminals to retail partners.
The new terminals will replace existing Altura machines at National Lottery retail locations across the U.K.
Wave machines feature a high-speed processor and lager and tilt-adjustable LCD screen, as well as wireless 1D barcode and 2D code scanners. The terminals also have a pay slip reader, which can be fed both horizontally and vertically.
Allwyn hopes that almost 4,000 retailers will have the Wave terminals in place by the end of August. From September, it aims to install thousands of machines a week.
“We understand the importance of this technology in enhancing the in-store experience for both retailers and their customers,” Allwyn Director of Operations Jenny Blogg said.
Allwyn Committed to National Lottery Improvements
This represents the latest stage of Allwyn’s transformation plan for the National Lottery. In H1, almost 8,000 retailers, most of which were using Compact Lottery Terminals, took delivery of Wave terminals.
Meanwhile, Allwyn carried out a major technical upgrade for the lottery from August 2-4. This included more than 30 new technology systems, rebuilt back-end gaming platform, new in-store network, and migration of tens of thousands of retailer records and millions of transactions from legacy systems dating back to 2009.
“This is another massive undertaking from Allwyn as we deliver generational change to The National Lottery,” Blogg said. “We have invested more than £350 million ($469 million) in a comprehensive plan to transform the National Lottery, substantially improving its operations and technology.
“These will support exciting plans we have for new games, a better player experience, and a commitment to double returns to Good Causes from £30 million to £60 million every week by the end of our 10-year license.”
