A Bright Forecast

Throughout his career, Elmer Espiritu has followed the sun. Born in Oahu, Hawaii, and raised in Waipahu, he relocated to Las Vegas 20 years ago. In 2010, he graduated from ITT Technical Institute in Henderson, Nevada with a bachelor of science degree in electronics and electrical engineering.

The post-recession era was “a challenging time to find a job,” Espiritu recalls. “I applied to many different positions, and fortunately JCM Global hired me as a QA tester. That opportunity became my entry point into the gaming industry.”

In 2013, he joined Ainsworth Game Technology as a test engineer. “In that role, I learned how critical compliance is within the gaming industry,” says Espiritu. “It involves ensuring that products meet strict jurisdictional and technical requirements before they’re approved for the market.”

In 2021, he pivoted to Sega Sammy Creation USA, and rose to the role of director of technical compliance. In that capacity, Espiritu helps make sure the company’s iGaming and sports betting products comply with relevant technical and operational regulations anywhere it operates.

Espiritu says he owes much of his success to his current boss, Sega Sammy Director of Gaming Compliance Ken Santos. “Ken has been a great mentor and continues to guide me while sharing his knowledge and experience. Over the past five years, I’ve learned a tremendous amount from him, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without his confidence and support.”

He also credits his family and friends for his accomplishments. “I enjoy barbecuing, being in each other’s company,” he says. “That’s the Hawaii in me. I also play golf when I can. Being on the golf course is another way I like to unwind.”

Espiritu looks forward to growing with Sega Sammy. “I believe that when you work hard, believe in yourself and believe in the company you’re part of—especially one with a bright future—everything tends to fall into place.”

He and his wife of 10 years, Jessica, are the parents of two young  boys—Connor, 8, and Noah, 6. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without them,” Espiritu says. “They are my ‘why’ and motivate me to keep striving to be better every day.”
