Miller Nguyen’s tech journey began at the age of 13 in his birthplace of Saigon when he took his first class in coding. He quickly developed a love for the field.
“It sparked my interest in programming, while also exploring painting, which nurtured my artistic perspective,” he says.
He then pursued a degree in computer science at Lotus College (Hoa Sen University) and later earned a master’s degree in engineering business management from Coventry University, a U.K. institution, through a program held in Singapore.
After college, he signed on as a dealer with Star Cruise Lines because he “wanted to see the world.” But the world came to him in the person of Baybars Oral, who is now the senior vice president of casino operations at Marina Bay Sands.
“I was fast-tracked into management at the headquarters of Star Cruises, where my ability to quickly learn and master all casino games led me to become a casino training manager,” says Nguyen. “In this role, I not only trained staff but also support the development and implementation of technological innovations in casino operations.”
Now a permanent resident of Singapore, Nguyen began to understand why casinos consider the personal relationships with customers so important, and that they could be improved with the application of technology.
“I chose to focus on the technology side of gaming because it provides endless possibilities to innovate and elevate the player experience,” he explains. “Technology enables more engaging and efficient environments, allowing the industry to adapt and thrive. I believe future advancements in AI, automation and interactive systems will reshape gaming by offering personalized experiences, enhancing operational efficiencies, and setting new benchmarks for innovation, ensuring that the gaming industry remains dynamic and forward-thinking.”
Already the top casino in Singapore, Marina Bay Sands is about to embark on a multibillion-dollar expansion, providing an opportunity for Nguyen to advance his skills and add to the appeal of the overall experience.
“As Marina Bay Sands continues to grow,” he says, “I aim to leverage my expertise in gaming technology and operational innovation to drive impactful decisions, and focus on strategic innovation that enhances operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
“My experience in digitalizing back-of-house systems and automating processes has streamlined operations, reduced workload and improved overall efficiency. By focusing on emerging trends and player-centric strategies, I strive to support Marina Bay Sands in delivering exceptional experiences while reinforcing its position as a global leader in gaming.”
