By April 2011, phase one of the Aqueduct racino is expected to open, with 1,600 video lottery terminals to attract gamblers in the New York metropolitan area and beyond.
Tutor Perini Corp. of California, one of the world’s largest construction companies, will redevelop the historic racetrack. The company will renovate the existing grandstand, introduce several dining venues and retail space, and create a new gaming area with a multi-level casino that will eventually house 4,500 VLTs. Improvements to the existing building exterior, roadways, parking lots and landscaping are also included in the project.
Construction is due to start around November 1, according to the Queens Chronicle. The entire project is expected to be completed in about 18 months, according to projections from Tutor Perini. The construction value is estimated to be $241 million.
The racino will be known as Resorts World New York.
