PokerPro tourney run by Canadian casino

Canada’s Casino de Montreal last month hosted the world’s largest multi-table poker tournament ever run on automated poker tables. It was run completely by four staff members.

A record 240 players competed in a no-limit Texas Hold ’em poker tournament in the casino’s new poker room stocked exclusively with PokerPro, the automated poker table produced by North Carolina-based PokerTek, Inc.

Mohamed Nadim, an engineering student, was crowned house champ after he took down 239 players and walked away with $20,000. The top 20 finishers went home with cash.

“Running a tournament of this magnitude is what we always envisioned for PokerPro,” said PokerTek CEO Chris Halligan. “We are pleased with the success of this tournament and proud of our partnership with Casino de Montreal. The Québécois players have embraced automated poker, as validated by the response to this tournament.”

The casino’s poker room includes 25 of the 10-player PokerPro tables, which is the most in any single installation.
