The Louisiana Gaming Control Board voted unanimously to approve Ameristar Casinos’ acquisition of the uncompleted Mojito Pointe Casino Resort project in Lake Charles for .5 million from Creative Casinos of Louisiana LLC. The property represents Louisiana’s last remaining riverboat gaming license.
Ameristar said construction began on the $500 million Ameristar Casino Resort Spa Lake Charles the week of July 16 and will be completed by mid-2014. Ultimately, the development will feature a floating casino with 1,600 slots and 60 table games, a 700-room hotel, several restaurants, an 18-hole golf course, tennis club, swimming pools, spa and 3,000 parking spaces.
Ameristar has eight casino-hotels, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, Colorado, Iowa, Indiana, Nevada and Missouri.
