GLI Europe Approved to Test i-Gaming in Spain

GLI Europe BV, the European division of gaming testing organization Gaming Laboratories International, LLC, has been accredited by Spanish gaming authorities to test and certify internet gaming platforms for Spain.

GLI Europe is now accredited as an independent testing laboratory for both B2B i-gaming platform suppliers and B2C online gaming operators, and an independent auditor of information security systems (ISS). Both certifications are required by the Spanish government before i-gaming operators can provide their services.

GLI Director of iGaming Development Filippo Ferri said, “We are seeing a tremendous amount of interest in the Spanish market, both from established international operators seeking to cement their presence in the market and from local Spanish realities looking to take their bricks-and-mortar operations online.”

In October, a new draft Royal Decree describing the operator licensing process was published by the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego, describing a new staged approach to testing. The internal control system (including the safe storage database) and the technical projects for both platform and games will need to be certified in order to apply for a license.

Once that has been accomplished, internet gaming providers will need to have their entire system and games certified and hosting facilities audited within four months of the gaming providers obtaining a preliminary license to operate.

“There is a huge interest in the Spanish i-gaming market,” said Aurora Merino Salas, GLI’s new business development manager in Spain. “Operators wanting to get into this market from the very first moment will have to make some very important business decisions. One of these is the choice of the laboratory certifying their systems and games. And GLI is a wise choice for any operator or provider aiming to get into the Spanish market as soon as possible.”
