Mark Gearan, the chairman of the New York Gaming Commission, has announced his resignation. His replacement will be picked by Governor Andrew Cuomo, before the state Senate confirms the decision.
Gearan was formerly a director of the Peace Corps. Currently, he serves as president of Hobart and William Smith College. He has cited an increase in his workload and obligations for his resignation.
He has been chairman of the Gaming Commission since March 2014. Gearan said it was an “enormous privilege” to hold the position.
