This game, with images and a story line that lay out the legend of the phoenix, is the latest in Aristocrat’s “Reel Power” series of scatter-pay slots. In this series, the player pays to activate reels instead of paylines, and all wins are paid as scatters-resulting in 247 possible winning combinations on each spin.

This game also includes the “Power Pay” feature, which offers extra bonus capability for a five-credit ante bet, plus enough of a per-spin wager to activate all the reels. The game is available in the Viridian cabinet, and will soon be available on the new Viridian Widescreen cabinet.

The base game pays for three or more adjacent symbols beginning with the left-most reel. The volcano symbol is wild, substituting for all but the scatter-pay phoenix symbol. It is a multiplying wild symbol: Wins including the volcano are multiplied by two, three or five, the choice made at random by the computer.

The phoenix symbol is a scatter-pay symbol, meaning it pays for three, four or five adjacent symbols anywhere on the game screen (they do not have to start at the left reel). If three, four or five symbols land, the player is awarded six, nine or 12 free games, respectively.

That’s where Power Pay comes in. In normal mode, for free games, the first two reels become “twin reels”-they display matching symbols in each adjacent position. When the Power Pay ante has been made, the fourth and fifth reels also become twin reels, making winning combinations much easier to achieve.

Fire Light has a medium to high volatility and an average feature frequency. The game is available for all denominations, although it is recommended for penny and 2-cent configuration.
