Cherokee Nation's Hummingbird Receives Top Award

The International Masters of Gaming Law recognized Gaming Commission Director of the Cherokee Nation Jamie Hummingbird as 2012 Regulator of the Year in a Las Vegas ceremony October 2.

“Jamie’s award recognizes his leadership role over many years in the effective regulation of Indian gaming and his strong commitment to protecting the integrity of tribal gaming,” said Kevin Quigley, panel member of the IMGL. “He is leading the way in advancing the regulatory professionalism in Indian Country.” Quigley was one of 10 members on a panel to select an IMGL member who is an example of dedicated service to the gaming sector.

Since breaking into the director’s seat on the tribe’s gaming commission 14 years ago, Hummingbird has increased his staff to 58 to effectively monitor the nation’s eight additional gaming facilities.
