Bulgaria has a new gaming law that regulates online gaming and demands more of operators and manufacturers in the land-based gaming sectors.
The new law is seen as an important step forward in the modernization of gaming regulations, which will allow operators to offer advanced and innovative products to players.
The Bulgarian Trade Association of Manufacturers and Operators in the Gaming Industry says the new requirements will lead to a reduction in the number of gaming venues but an increase in orders of new equipment over the next 18 months.
For manufacturers, the new gaming law means more accountability at all levels, such as testing by independent laboratories and the distribution of gaming machines.
The Bulgarian gaming market has stagnated and shrunk by 40 percent in recent years due to the economy and a huge tax increase on gaming two years ago. For operators, the new gaming law provides added requirements on investments and increases the minimum number of gaming positions per venue. Both measures are expected to reduce the number of venues even further.
The legal operation of online gaming and betting is also expected to change the market, depending on the content of the regulations and requirements yet to be announced.
