Elo TouchSystems, a business unit of Pennsylvania-based Tyco Electronics, has introduced a wide-viewing-panel touch-screen monitor for gaming applications.
The screens have bright viewing angles that enable game developers to design applications that take advantage of innovative touch technology with a look company officials say will create a “wow” factor for players.
This family of products expands the portfolio of Elo TouchSystems’ open-frame, high-performance LCD Touchmonitors with four screen sizes: 20 inch, 22 inch, 26 inch and 32 inch. All have integrative touch screens.
The new large-screen, wide-aspect displays include a choice of touch technologies, such as IntelliTouch surface acoustic wave, surface capacitive and Acoustic Pulse Recognition, or APR. Elo’s touchscreens are resistant to scratches and liquids, and can be activated in a variety of ways.
According to Elo Product Manager Brian Shannon, “Elo’s touchmonitors are designed for touch from the ground up. It’s not added as an afterthought. After all, we invented touch technology over 35 years ago and we’ve been consistently innovating and improving our designs ever since.”
Features include analog and digital interfaces, multi-lingual on-screen display, flexible mounting options and worldwide compliance. The open-frame chassis features an integrated, precision mini-bezel with a watertight seal.
APR is Elo’s newest technology. Launched a year ago, APR offers improved optical characteristics, accuracy and reliability, and the added advantage of “palm rejection.” Palm rejection allows a user to rest his hand or other object on a touchscreen without activating it.
APR takes the best of other such technologies and combines it with an application created specifically for the gaming console. But these technologies can also be used for point-of-information kiosks, interactive digital-signage displays and retail self-service. They offer viewing angles from 160 degrees to 178 degrees, supplemented by brightness as high as 500 nits. The company’s APR and IntelliTouch touch technologies offer optimal light transmission to the user-up to 92 percent.
