Legislation in Bermuda calling for a national referendum on gaming has been introduced in the House of Assembly.
Premier Paula Cox (left), a supporter of the poll, titled “Should there be licensed casino gaming in Bermuda?” introduced the referendum measure, although she gave no details on when she thinks it will be considered.
Earlier this year, the House passed a bill providing for referenda, but separate legislation must be enacted for each vote held.
Shadow Tourism Minister Shawn Crockwell said he believes government was considering holding the referendum simultaneously with a general election, which Cox has indicated would be called before the end of the year.
The bill would have to pass both the House and Senate before then to qualify for the ballot.
