All That Jazz!

This video slot features one of the most creative uses to date of the Bally “iDeck,” the touch-screen LCD button panel that transforms into an interactive device for bonuses.

The base game for All That Jazz! is a five-reel, 40-line video slot carrying a jazz music theme. The second and fourth reels have four symbols each; the others have three symbols. Both the reels and the top display are on the vertical portrait-style LCD monitor of Bally’s V32 cabinet.

Bonus symbols on the first, third and fifth reels trigger the “Grand Piano Bonus,” in which the iDeck touch-screen device becomes a set of piano keys for a bonus that is not unlike “Rock Band,” “Guitar Hero” or other video amusement games that have players match a tune on a virtual instrument as it plays. The player can choose from several tunes of varying difficulty levels, starting with something as simple as “Mary Had A Little Lamb.”

As the tune plays, the player tries to match the notes on the piano keyboard. Every time a correct note is hit, a note on the screen turns into a number and floats to a reel set at the top of the screen. When the tune ends, the reels spin to reveal the player’s credit award.

Any or all of the five progressives are won through a separate feature. Each of the five progressive jackpots is displayed above one of the reels. Any time the player lands five trumpets, saxophones, bass fiddles, microphones or “All That Jazz!” symbols, a shower of notes pours down on the reels. If a note lands on one of the five-of-a-kind symbols, the player is awarded the progressive corresponding to that reel. Players can land multiple progressives, including the top progressive resetting at 100,000 credits times the denomination—$1,000 on the common penny version of the game.
