Work on a major retail and leisure complex with a casino at The NEC in Birmingham, England, is set to begin this month.
Genting UK and contractor Galliford Try have reached agreement on financial terms, signaling the £125 million (US$142.8 million) complex is ready to begin construction.
Genting is planning a branded Resorts World casino for the site, encompassing 55,000 square meters and including conference and banqueting facilities, a 176-room hotel, a spa, a factory outlet center, a cinema complex, restaurants and bars and parking for 480 cars.
The construction phase, scheduled to be complete in January 2015, is expected to create 1,750 jobs. The casino will create over 1,100 full-time equivalent jobs when fully operational and pump an estimated £25 million a year into the local economy.
