African Diamond

This game is Konami’s introduction to KP3, the video format that is the next generation to the manufacturer’s standard K2V video slot line. The jungle theme is used here as a showcase for the capabilities of the new video platform—a powerful CPU enabling intense graphics and 3D interfaces on the screen.

“It’s time players didn’t just play games; they were a part of them,” is how Konami describes KP3. This platform offers a wealth of capabilities to make good on that promise, including the ability for interactive skill games using pinball-style flippers on the side of the cabinet. Konami’s “Podium” cabinet incorporates a dual display that allows for interaction between the top and bottom video monitors.

African Diamond is actually a reprise of one of Konami’s more successful K2V games. It uses the same math model, enhancing the popular theme with the improved graphic capabilities of the new platform.

The game itself is relatively basic. It is a five-reel, 30-line video slot with a free-spin bonus as its secondary event, and a unique wild-symbol gimmick: At random, several symbols on the game screen are replaced by one of 10 symbols. The same symbol replaces several adjacent symbols, and they stay in place for the spin. There also is a wild symbol that appears on all but the first reel, which substitutes for those same 10 symbols. Thus, a random substitution spin with wild symbols can end up quite lucrative for the player.
