The City Council of Sydney, Australia wants Star City casino management to take another look at its planned A5 million redevelopment project.
The plans include an outdoor gaming area that would allow players to circumvent the indoor smoking ban.
Another major element of the project involves the development of the harbor-facing side of the casino. Currently, the casino entrance faces the street, with its back to the water. Star City wants to incorporate the harbor atmosphere into the property.
The council reportedly was not happy with the plans as submitted. One reason given is that the casinoÆs glass walls would supposedly not add to the ambiance of the area.
The council also fears that the outdoor gambling areaùwhich would be the largest in Australiaùwill contribute to compulsive gambling. Presumably, smokers would not take a break from slot play to catch a smoke, as they would be forced to when playing inside the casino structure.
