Panama Casinos Need Transparency
At the end of January, Antonio Alfaro, president of Panama’s Association of Games of Chance Administrators, appealed to the country’s Gambling Control Committee for more transparency in approving casino licenses.
Alfaro is protesting the committee’s disregard of the trade union’s opinion in approving a casino license for the Hotel Four Points Sheraton.
The association argues that the license approval violates Panama law, which requires a hotel to have at least 300 rooms and international five-star status to win a gaming license.
“We do not oppose the arrival of new competitors to the market, but we do believe that these new competitors should comply with the things stipulated in the law,” Alfaro said.
