U.K. Approves Antigua Ads

By GGB Staff   Tue, Dec 02, 2008

The United Kingdom Department of Culture, Media and Sport white-listed online operators based in Antigua, allowing them to advertise throughout the U.K. starting November 21.

According to Mark Mendel, Antigua and Barbuda’s attorney at the World Trade Organization, Antigua and Barbuda is the only non-European Union country other than Tasmania allowed to advertise in the U.K.

“We look forward to the expansion opportunities that this provides for our current licensees and to welcoming other remote gambling brands to our jurisdiction,” Antiguan Minister of Finance and the Economy L. Errol Cort said in a statement.

In making its ruling, the regulatory board said it is “content that Antigua and Barbuda has the legal authority to regulate gambling and that its current system of regulation and licensing provides a robust and adequately resourced framework to uphold our shared objectives: to prevent gambling from becoming a source of crime, to keep gambling fair and open and to protect children and vulnerable people.”
