Alabama Casino to Open in 2009

By GGB Staff   Tue, Dec 02, 2008

Alabama’s first Class II casino resort is on schedule to open in a few months.

The $250 million Wind Creek Casino Hotel and Resort, owned by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, will be a 236-room, 16-story tower with 1,600 electronic bingo machines and Las Vegas-style amenities. That’s 500 more machines than the current bingo hall offers.

The facility is expected to open in early 2009, although the first section of the resort, the Smoke Shop, opened earlier this month.

When completed there will be four dining venues, including a premium steakhouse, an outdoor amphitheatre that seats 2,000, a spa, a 4000-square-foot conference center, a ballroom that seats 120 and several lounges.

A wooden floor will allow those who want to take advantage of the amenities without being “in” a casino to do so.

According to Creek Indian Enterprises President and CEO Tim Martin, “You can come in this facility and as long as you stay on the wood, you are not in a gaming facility. You can go to every one of our venues and never go into the gaming area.”
