Newspaper Magnate Stays in Charge at OLG
Newspaper owner Paul Godfrey will stay on as chairman of the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp., even though he now owns the Canwest newspaper chain, which benefits from lottery advertising.
"Mr. Godfrey is a very capable individual, and he remains quite willing to lead in the capacity that he's assumed at OLG, and we support him in that," said Premier Dalton McGuinty.
According to its annual report, the lottery corporation spent $285.3 million on marketing and promotion in fiscal 2008, some of it on newspaper advertising.
