Kansas Lottery Director Moves to Maryland

Stephen Martino, former executive director of the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission, has been appointed director of the Maryland Lottery Agency by Governor Martin O'Malley. Martino began his new position April 26.

The Maryland Lottery Agency lost its former director, Buddy Roogow, to the D.C. Lottery in 2009. Martino was head of the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission for five years, during that time overseeing the opening of the country's first state-owned casino.

Prior to joining the Kansas commission, Martino served as special assistant attorney general in Kansas, and was responsible for criminal gambling cases.
