The Ha Tien Vegas Casino & Hotel in Kampot, Cambodia held its grand opening on September 25.

The Phnom Penh Post reports that the $50 million, Cambodian-American joint venture is aimed at Vietnamese tourists but also plans to market in Singapore, Malaysia, Laos and elsewhere in the region. The casino, near the border with Vietnam and on the main highway to Ho Chi Minh City, is the first such property in the province.

At the casino website, the gaming mix is described as consisting of some 200 slots, over 75 table games, a sports book and four VIP gaming rooms. The casino is open round the clock and online gaming is also allowed. Players can earn cash back and other benefits by signing up to the Ha Tien Vegas Players Club.

The four-star hotel has 150 rooms and 11 suites, including a deluxe presidential suite. There is a full spa with 13 private rooms and 3,000 square meters of configurable function space, capable of handling groups of up to 3,000 attendees.

Two restaurants and two bars are available for casino guests. The hotel provides 24-hour room service.

At the grand opening, General Manager Paul Simmonts told the Post, “We were interested in the Prek Chak border area because we believe that it will develop. We also believe that the casino industry in Cambodia is growing very strongly.”

Simmonts said the owners of Ha Tien Vegas are planning a similar project in Takeo province. Another large project, owned by the chairman of Sokimex Group Sok Kong, is being built near the provincial capital, Kampot.

The new resort is said to be capable of providing up to 1,000 jobs and is expected to give a boost to regional tourism.
