The official state bulletin of Spain has published the new gaming legislation passed by the Canary Islands legislature in July. The Canary Islands is an autonomous region of Spain.

The new law, passed unanimously, repeals the 1999 gaming act and deals with all aspects of the modern gaming industry. The law comes into effect with its publication.

The law is said to be compliant with E.U. norms and covers in detail all forms of gaming. It also allows sports betting to be extended potentially to any sport, where previously it was limited to betting on horses, greyhounds or jai alai.

Gaming licenses for all sectors are now subject to public tender and will be valid for 10 years.
