The Northern Marianas island of Rota has four prospective investors interested in opening a casino there, reports Marianas Variety.
Rep. Victor B. Hocog said the unnamed investors are from Japan, Korea and China.
Hocog said the Rota municipal government must still name the casino commission members before the investors will take the next steps. The commission members, to be named by the mayor, will then finalize the rules and regulations for the industry.
Rota voters approved casinos in a referendum last November. In that same election, voters on the Northern Marianas island of Saipan rejected a very specific casino plan. Tinian, the third major island in the group, already has some casino development.
